#11: Prisoners
When his daughter and a friend’s daughter go missing simultaneously, a father (Hugh Jackman) decides to kidnap the man he suspects is responsible. After years of pre-production holdup and a virtual revolving door of leading actors, ‘Prisoners’ is finally coming to the big screen. As a crime thriller, this should not be confused with the action thriller ‘Taken’; this is a cerebral piece, a psychological tete-a-tete between a desperate father and a possible psychopath.The cast of "Prisoners" is unbelievably stacked in the talent department, Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Viola Davis, Mellissa Leo, Maria Bello and Paul Dano, to name a few. #12: Rush
From director Ron Howard comes a biopic about Austrian formula 1 racer Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) and his rivalry with British driver, James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth). Despite being billed as a Chris Hemsworth feature, this film actually focuses on Daniel Bruhl’s character Niki Lauda. This is Howard’s bid for Oscar however; the release date puts him at a disadvantage for the short-term memory of the Academy. Ron Howard is the reason to watch.As one of Hollywood’s greatest directors, he promises to bring heart and strong emotion to the screen. Bruhl is a huge box office gamble in the lead role and promoting it on Hemsworth’s name could backfire as audiences actually see the movie. #13: Don Jon
Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes his directorial debut in the cheeky comedy, ‘Don Jon’ as a man whose expectations of women have been warped by his constant viewing of adult films. All of that changes, of course, when he meets Scarlett Johansson’s Barbara. Festival buzz on this movie has been huge.Gordon-Levitt has proven himself to be an incredibly talented actor and with ‘Don Jon’, he is setting the stage for multi-platform domination. What also makes this movie highly anticipated is a career re-surging role for Tony Danza playing Gordon-Levitt’s father, in a very well-received turn from critics. Release Date: September 27
#14: Carrie
Stephen King’s epic prom night, revenge tale, gets a remake of Brian De Palma’s classic adaptation. Chloe Grace-Moretz takes over from Sissy Spacek in the titular role and stars Julianne Moore in the role of Carrie’s mother. From there the cast is composed of Hollywood’s hottest rising talent; unknowns to the general public. Like the original ‘Carrie’ this movie has what it takes to make stars of the eager young cast.It was originally supposed to come out earlier this year and was postponed, until October, to fit the horror expectations surrounding Halloween. Director Kimberly Peirce is an interesting choice as helmer, having gained massive critical credit for ‘Boys Don’t Cry’. De Palma has left big shoes to fill. Release Date: October 18
#15: Escape Plan
Sylvester Stallone returns to theaters in a non-“Expendables” project that has him re-teaming with Arnold Schwarzenegger. The “Sly” one plays an architect of high security prisons who winds up in an inescapable penitentiary of his own design, after he becomes incarcerated. Directed by Mikael Hafstrom, the same helmer behind the underrated “Derailed” and the Stephen King adaptation of “1408”; he promises to bring the thrills in this technical thriller.It’s an interesting concept, albeit, the prison escape motif has been covered extensively with films like Steven Seagal’s “Half Past Dead” and “The Fugitive”. Starring action legends, Stallone & Schwarzenegger, it is intriguing enough bait to make it worth watching. Release Date: October 18
